Two of Cups
Minor Arcana, Cups, Water
The card
Two people step toward each other and exchange cups, and above them rises a winged lion over two entwined serpents. This is meeting as a sacrament: not one person choosing another, but two people recognising each other at the same moment.
The Two of Cups is the smallest and most complete picture of partnership in the deck. Everything in it depends on equality. The exchange only works because both hands are giving and both are receiving.
Two of Cups upright
Mutual feeling, and mutual willingness to act on it. A date, a reconciliation, an honest partnership, an agreement in which both sides genuinely want the other to do well.
This is one of the clearest positive signals for a relationship in the deck — the attraction is returned and the other person is prepared to invest. Step toward them. Keep the exchange even as you go: what makes this bond strong is not intensity but reciprocity, and the moment one person starts carrying both cups it stops being this card.
Two of Cups reversed
Reversed, the balance breaks. One person is giving more, wanting more or apologising more. There may be a hurt neither side has named, a reconciliation attempted and left incomplete, or a connection where affection has quietly turned into dependence.
Not everything here is ruin. Often it is simply an imbalance that can be corrected by saying one honest sentence out loud. Ask yourself what you have stopped mentioning in order to keep the peace — that omission is usually where the tilt began.
🜁Thoughts
Thought is on meeting, on talking, on the real possibility of being a pair. This person notices the mutuality or wants to test whether it exists before saying anything definite.
🜄Feelings and relationships
Mutual sympathy, tenderness, attraction, emotional compatibility. One of the most direct cards for feeling that is genuinely returned rather than hoped for.
🜃Work and money
A good collaboration, a contract, a partnership business, a client relationship worth keeping. The financial result depends on an even exchange and transparent terms.
