Temperance
Major Arcana, Fire
The card
An angel stands with one foot on land and one in water, pouring liquid between two cups in a stream that should not be possible. Nothing is spilled. This is the card of proportion — the slow, unglamorous art of combining things in the right amounts until they become something neither could be alone.
Temperance is what comes after Death, and that placement is not accidental. Having lost the old shape, you are now being asked to mix a new one. It takes longer than you want. It cannot be rushed without ruining it.
Temperance upright
Something is being healed, integrated or restored to balance. Two opposing needs are learning to coexist; a body, a bond or a finance is recovering. The improvement is real and it is gradual — expect steady, not sudden.
Moderation is the instruction. Not less life, but life in workable proportions: rest against work, giving against receiving, feeling against thought. This is also a strong card for reconciliation, for finding the middle ground that lets both parties keep their dignity. Take the temperature slowly and you will get this right.
Temperance reversed
Reversed, the proportions are off. Too much of one thing and none of another — overwork with no recovery, indulgence with no restraint, or a relationship where one person's needs have quietly consumed all the available space.
Impatience is often the culprit. You are trying to complete in a month what was built to take a year, and forcing the pace is undoing the work. This position can also show two elements that simply do not combine: people, plans or commitments that are not compatible no matter how carefully you pour. Some things do not blend, and admitting it is the beginning of the remedy.
🜁Thoughts
Thought is measured and reconciling — looking for the arrangement that lets both sides work rather than the argument that lets one win. There is patience here, and a willingness to wait for the right moment rather than the immediate one.
🜄Feelings and relationships
Calm, steady, healing feeling. Not fireworks, but the emotional weather people can actually live in. Where something was strained, it is mending. Strained itself, it becomes lukewarmness — a bond kept at a temperature that never asks anything of anyone.
🜃Work and money
Collaboration, adjustment, a role that requires diplomacy, gradual professional recovery. In money, a rebalancing: debts reduced steadily, spending brought into proportion, nothing dramatic and everything improving.
