The card

The Six of Swords is the crossing from bad water to better. Nothing is solved yet. But the direction has changed, and after long trouble a change of direction is most of the relief.

You are moving out of a difficult period. A relocation, a journey, the end of a conflict, a decision to put distance between yourself and something that was wearing you down.

It will be gradual rather than sudden, and it will require leaving part of the past behind — a version of events, a hope, an argument you would still like to win. Take the useful things and go. The card is quietly favourable: this crossing improves your situation, even though the improvement arrives slowly enough that you may not notice it happening.

Six of Swords reversed

Reversed, the crossing stalls. A move that keeps being postponed, a return to a situation you had already left, a conflict resumed because the distance became uncomfortable in a different way.

The underlying issue is usually that the swords have not been set down. You have relocated the circumstances and carried the whole argument with you, which means the new place will start producing the old feeling. Something needs to be genuinely finished before the crossing works — not left behind, finished.

Thought is on how to get some distance from the strain and move the situation into a calmer register. A departure, a pause or a move may be actively being planned.

Feeling cooling, or being deliberately restrained for the sake of peace of mind. Attachment may remain entirely intact while the person still chooses distance — the two are not contradictory here.

A change of job, a business trip, going remote, moving to another team. Finances improve gradually after the crisis rather than immediately upon leaving it.
