Page of Cups
Minor Arcana, Cups, Water
The card
A young figure in a flowered tunic lifts a cup and finds a fish looking back at him. He is surprised and delighted rather than alarmed. Something has come up from the depths and it is friendly.
The Page of Cups is the first stirring of feeling and the courage it takes to admit one. He is sincere, easily hurt, and not yet very good at telling his own emotions apart — which is exactly what makes him honest.
Page of Cups upright
A soft emotional signal arrives. A message, an apology, a compliment, a confession, a creative idea that comes from nowhere and asks to be taken seriously.
Answer it gently. This is a good moment to say the simple true thing rather than the clever thing — the situation will respond to sincerity and be damaged by strategy. If you have been waiting for someone to make a move, this card suggests the move will be small, tentative and genuine, and easy to miss if you are expecting something grander.
Page of Cups reversed
Reversed, the tenderness turns fragile. Feelings hurt over very little, a sulk instead of a sentence, a message that arrives warm and then goes nowhere. There may be fantasy standing in for contact — a whole relationship conducted in someone's imagination.
At its least attractive this is pity used as leverage: emotion displayed in order to move someone rather than to reach them. If that is what is happening, no amount of responding to the display will help. Ask for the adult conversation instead, kindly and once.
🜁Thoughts
Thought is on how to show sympathy, whether to write, how to apologise. This person may be daydreaming, and small signs from you are being given a great deal of weight.
🜄Feelings and relationships
Tenderness, a shy kind of falling in love, emotional curiosity. The feeling is sincere and still unsteady — real, but not yet able to carry much.
🜃Work and money
A creative proposal, study, work with children or art. Financially a modest opportunity that will only grow if the underlying skill does.
