King of Wands
Minor Arcana, Wands, Fire
The card
He sits on a throne carved with salamanders and lions, staff planted, body turned as though he is already half out of the chair. He is not a man who enjoys sitting. Fire at its most mature: not the spark, not the chase, but the will that carries a vision through years of other people's doubt.
The King of Wands is the founder, the one who saw it before there was evidence and made everyone else see it too.
King of Wands upright
A vision worth following, and the authority to lead it. This card marks someone — perhaps you — who combines genuine boldness with the ability to make others want to come along.
Take the decision that requires conviction. This is a strong position for founding something, for taking charge of a stalled situation, for backing your own judgement over the committee's. Your enthusiasm is contagious right now and your credibility is high; use both while they coincide, and be generous with credit as you go.
King of Wands reversed
Reversed, leadership becomes ego. Impatience with people who think more slowly, advice given as instruction, a certainty that stopped being tested somewhere around three years ago. He is often still right and is now impossible to work with.
The other failure is vision without execution: a compelling picture painted repeatedly and never built, promises made in a big voice and quietly not kept. If you recognise this, the fix is unglamorous — deliver one specific promise on time, and let that rebuild what the speeches have been spending.
🜁Thoughts
Thought is decisive and directed at the large picture. This person is assessing whether you fit into a future they have already imagined in some detail, and they are not much interested in ambiguity.
🜄Feelings and relationships
Strong, warm, straightforward feeling expressed through action, generosity and protection rather than through reflection. Strained, it becomes a need to lead the relationship as well as everything else.
🜃Work and money
Founding a company, senior leadership, a role requiring conviction and public presence, a project that needs someone to carry it against resistance. Money follows authority and reputation here.
